Why isn't my business showing up when people ask AI?

You asked ChatGPT or Gemini for “the best {your service}near me” and it confidently named a few competitors — but not you. It stings, and it matters: more buyers ask AI before they ever open Google. Here are the real reasons a business gets skipped, and what actually fixes each one.

1. You're missing from the sources AI reads

Assistants don't invent recommendations — they pull from public sources: “best of” lists, directories, and Google's local data. If you're absent from the Yelp/Angi/Healthgrades-style listings and the local “best [service]” articles for your area, the AI simply has nothing to cite. Fix: get listed, accurately and consistently, on the directories that matter for your category.

2. Your reviews are thin or stale

Review volume and recency are some of the strongest signals AI uses to judge “best.” A handful of old reviews reads as low-confidence. Fix:a simple, ongoing habit of asking real, satisfied customers for an honest review. (Never buy or fake reviews — it's deceptive and against every platform's rules.)

3. Your details are inconsistent across the web

If your name, address, and phone differ across sites, AI (and Google) lose confidence that they're talking about one real business. Fix: make your core details identical everywhere.

4. There's no structured, AI-readable profile of you

Assistants quote sources they can parse cleanly. A clear, structured (schema.org) profile that states what you do, where, and the questions customers ask gives the AI something easy to cite. Fix: publish an accurate, machine-readable profile — without rebuilding your website.
